Our Manifesto (or why we're better than most high street brands)

Fashion is an industry which has been commonly misinterpreted by the general public. Most assume that fashion should be cheap, unless it is from a designer brand such as Louis Vuitton or Gucci. This is a misconception which is damaging to independent designers. Due to the outsourcing of garment production to countries with sweatshops and a lessened emphasis on the health and safety of their workers, companies such as Primark, H&M and Next are allowed to charge less for their garments. They do not factor in the cost of the workers, since they get paid a fraction of minimum wage. This, on top of the environmental impact of producing what are essentially disposable garments, contributes to the shifting image of fashion as something that should be inexpensive.

Fashion up until recent decades has been created by tailors and seamstresses across the country, with very little outsourcing in terms of construction. As such, these garments were priced according to the material costs, wages for the workers and the time taken to produce the garment. At LEGALLYDISTINCT, we believe that this is the way fashion should be. Whilst we are aware that not everyone can afford higher priced garments, we cannot feasibly make enough money to support ourselves and continue to make cool stuff. We can, however, promise that we will never drastically overcharge for garments; that's stupid and we hate it when designer brands charge like £350 for just a belt.
